Intake
During the intake session, we will assess your current complaints together. We will also look at potential causes and/or factors that may be maintaining these issues. This process allows us to formulate a treatment goal.
Consultation and treatment plan
Following the intake, a consultation session will take place. During this session, we discuss the treatment goal, possible treatment options, and the anticipated duration of the treatment.
Evaluation
Around the midpoint of treatment, we will conduct an evaluation to assess our progress and fine-tune the treatment as needed. A final evaluation is also held at the end of treatment.
Background and work experience
As a child, I already had a fascination for figuring out how people work and why they do what they do. I've now been working as a psychologist for over 9 years with great enthusiasm. I see it as a privilege to walk alongside people and help them explore where they are, what works, what doesn’t work as well, and which direction they want to take. In that sense, I’m truly a ‘professional enthusiast.’
In 2016, I completed my Master’s in Clinical Forensic Psychology at the University of Amsterdam. After that, I worked with great enjoyment in addiction care across various settings: outpatient, inpatient, and day treatment. In addition to addiction, I also treated what is known as comorbid issues, ranging from depression and anxiety disorders to trauma and personality-related challenges.
Other places I’ve worked include general medical practices, anxiety and mood disorder clinics, and crisis services. Working in diverse settings with various client groups has given me broad experience in addressing a wide range of issues.
Eventually, I chose to establish my own practice because I wanted to help people who don’t necessarily fit within a ‘label’ or official DSM diagnosis. I’ve found that direct client contact runs more smoothly in a private practice. Keeping things small-scale allows for more personal attention.
Therapeutic style
Clients describe me as calm, thorough, honest, and positive. I would describe myself as an energetic enthusiastic 'nerd'; who also enjoys humor. In therapy, my priority is helping clients see their own perspectives and potential. I consider it a crucial (treatment) goal that people start to recognize these qualities within themselves again. In the beginning, I offer more guidance and support, like training wheels on a bicycle. Once you’ve gained confidence, we remove the training wheels so you can ride independently!
Together, we’ll determine which approach suits you best. Do we keep it practical, in the here and now, and solution-focused? Or do we delve deeper, identifying patterns and practicing changes where necessary? I specialise in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma therapy (EMDR, IE, ImRs, Exposure), and Schema Therapy.
I also consider it essential that clients feel they have adequate support in their environment during therapy. If needed or desired, I facilitate system sessions with important people in the client’s life to foster discussions and strengthen connections.
Quality statute
To operate a private practice in the Netherlands, a Quality Statute is required. This document outlines and verifies the quality standards a care provider must meet within mental health care. The current, approved statute for my practice can be viewed here:
