How can I help?
You do not need to know exactly what is going on with you before seeking help. Perhaps you already have a good understanding of what you are struggling with. You may find yourself constantly worrying, avoiding situations, being very hard on yourself, or noticing that something from the past is still affecting how you feel today. Sometimes you know perfectly well, rationally, how you would like to respond differently, but changing your behaviour in practice is much harder. In my practice, I help adults with a range of psychological difficulties and problems that can affect their daily lives.
Anxiety and panic
Anxiety can show up in many different ways. You may be afraid of certain situations, experience panic attacks, or find yourself constantly thinking about possible dangers. I work with, among other things:
- Panic symptoms and panic disorder
- Agoraphobia
- Social anxiety
- Specific phobias
- Excessive worrying and generalised anxiety
- Avoidance and safety behaviours
We do not only look at what you are afraid of, but especially at what keeps the anxiety going. From there, we work step by step towards greater freedom in your daily life.
Trauma and distressing experiences
Some experiences stay with you for longer than you would like. You may experience flashbacks, nightmares, avoidance, tension or strong emotional reactions. Sometimes you notice mainly that an experience from the past continues to affect your current life or relationships.
For trauma related difficulties, EMDR may be part of the treatment. Depending on what you are experiencing, other forms of trauma therapy or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy may also be used.
Self esteem and persistent patterns
Perhaps you notice that you keep finding yourself in the same situations. You may set very high standards for yourself, be afraid of disappointing others, feel rejected easily, or find it difficult to stand up for yourself. You may understand rationally where these reactions come from, but still find yourself responding in the same way.
It can then be helpful to explore together which patterns are at play, where they come from and how you can begin to break them. Schema Therapy can play an important role in this process.
Obsessions and control
Sometimes the need for certainty gradually takes up more and more space in your life. This may show up as checking, seeking reassurance, avoiding situations, or repeatedly trying to solve certain thoughts in your head.
We explore how this cycle works and practise breaking it. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and exposure can be used to help you change these patterns.
Depressive symptoms
When you have been feeling low for a longer period of time, have little energy or experience less enjoyment, it can become increasingly difficult to get moving again.
Together, we explore what is maintaining your symptoms and work towards restoring activity, mood and confidence in yourself.
ADHD and getting stuck in daily life
ADHD can show up in many different ways in adults. For example, procrastination, difficulties with planning and organisation, being easily distracted, struggling to prioritise, difficulties with motivation or structure, or getting stuck in your work or studies. Are you unsure whether you may have ADHD? Assessment for ADHD is also possible. Treatment is not only about becoming better at planning. We also look at the patterns and beliefs that may contribute to you repeatedly getting stuck.
Psychological difficulties related to pregnancy and childbirth
Pregnancy and childbirth can bring up many different emotions. Sometimes a previous experience stays with you longer than expected. You may feel anxious about a future birth, struggle with a traumatic birth experience, or notice that a previous pregnancy or childbirth experience continues to affect you emotionally.
Trauma treatment, including EMDR, can also be part of the treatment in these situations.
Do you recognise yourself in any of this?
You do not need to identify exactly with one of these categories. Perhaps you simply know that you are struggling and want to change something.
During the intake, we explore together what is going on, what you would like help with and which form of treatment fits your situation. Not every type of problem is suitable for my practice. If I think another form of support would be a better fit, I will tell you that as well.
